Much to the opposition of her father who never made any secret of his disdain for his daughter’s lofty ambitions, Mallika left her small village as soon as she was able to and she made her way to Mumbai.

Having made the decision to pursue a career within the entertainment industry, Mallika abandoned her birth name of Reema Lamba and adopted her current moniker (Sherawat is her mother’s maiden name). As Mallika soon discovered, however, it’s a long, hard road from obscurity to fame and fortune. As such, the struggling performer took on a job as an air hostess and soon found herself falling for a pilot named Karan Singh Gill.

Fortunately for Mallika, it was around that time that she finally managed to land a part in a movie titled, Jeena Sirf Mere Liye. Despite her small role, audiences and film producers began to take notice of Mallika’s beauty and natural talent.
In just a few years, Mallika established herself as one of the hottest and most in-demand actresses in Bollywood. She’s appeared in almost a dozen films since her debut, which is no small feat considering the fierce competition within the film industry.
Mallika cemented her reputation as a Bollywood sexpot in 2004 with the release of ‘Murder’, which cast the actress as a married woman who embarks upon an illicit affair that leads to disastrous consequences. The film proved that Mallika had no qualms about showing plenty of skin on the big screen. After landing a nomination for Best Actress at India’s Zee Cine Awards, Mallika discovered that she now had the status and reputation to essentially write her own ticket.

She also made news when she won a small role in a Jackie Chan movie, The Myth. She made a widely publicized appearance at the Cannes Film Festival to promote the movie. Since her debut, Mallika was often accused of simply being a sexy woman without talent.
